A new adventure...

Last night a friend of mine and I were discussing the not-so-glamorous life that many of us quietly lead. I think in this age of digital media, Facebook & Pinterest we all expect to be perfect examples of spouses, employees, motherhood or whatever role you choose. Unfortunately there are not many examples of the very real struggles that many of us face daily. We have sickness, messy houses, crazy emotions, many hats to juggle! No one can be everything to everyone. I am undertaking what I'm calling "The (im)perfect Truth Project" - join me in sharing the crazy stuff that happens in your life so that the myth of the perfect woman doesn't leave us all feeling like we don't measure up!

Here's a little does of imperfection for this morning; in order to actually get dressed for the day I plopped my 14 month old in her bouncy seat and let her watch 20 minutes of tv. Now, in a perfect world this is a huge no, no. But as a mom you do what you can to get dressed in the morning (when you actually take the time to do so!) Most mornings it's afternoon before I actually attempt getting dressed. She is currently chewing on an ink pen while I type. *great* parenting!!!!

I hope that we can find ourselves together. Thanks for stopping by.

  1. This is great!! I feel like if at the end of the day Rose is relatively clean, fed, and happy at the end of the day that is a success!! My house is a mess, laundry gets done when it absolutely needs to be, and there is usually food in the house. So many things need to be done when she is sleeping and so many things don't...it is what it is, but I wouldn't change it for the world! :)

  2. Thanks Erin; It's so true. We do the best we can with the time we have. I'm sharing this with the hopes of helping others feel like their lives are more normal than they might think. I struggle with comparing myself to others. So it's like therapy for me too!

  3. Bless you!! We all need this - me in particular. I will do my best to stop blotting out *those* events from my life and share them.

  4. Kudos to you, Chrissy! As a mother of grown children and a grandmother of a 3 and 7 year old, I know how important it is, as you are raising children, to realize what really matters in life. The "perfect" house, the "perfect" body, and the "perfect" kids are unrealistic ideals. I don't know if you fully realize the importance of sharing these issues and understanding that at times, the best we can do is sit back and laugh. I think a prerequisite to motherhood should be reading the book by Erma Bombeck, "Motherhood: The Second Oldest Profession." This book truly tells of the reality of motherhood and addresses, in a very laughable way, the daily trials of being a wife and a mother. The book was written for a lady named Judy who was incarcerated in a southern prison for the "unspeakable" crime of killing her child. After reading some of Erma Bombeck's books in prison, Judy wrote to Erma and said: "Had I known that mothers could laugh at those things, I probably wouldn't be where I am today." Sharing the ups and downs, the difficulties and rewards, the sorrows and the joys is very important to all mothers. I don't know where I would be today if not for the wonderful friends I had to share with while my children were growing up. Your mom is one of those friends who helped (and continues to help) keep me sane. Keep up the good work!
